Olympics GB is made up of 12 regions : 10 in England, 1 of Wales
and 1 of Scotland (which has within it 8 regions). Within our own
region of West Midlands region there are sixteen local groups.
Special Olympics Redditch is an accredited branch of Special Olympics
GB and is a fully voluntary operated group that provides year round
sports training and competition opportunties for people with learning
disabilities. We aim to provide year round training for people with
learning disabilities to take part in various sporting activites.
To enable and encourage Special Olympics athletes to participate
in sport on an equal level dependent on each person's ability.
Special Olympics Redditch has been a member group in it's own right
since 1994. Previously we were part of the county wide group - Special
Olympics Worcestershire - we felt that by becoming independent of
the county we could maximise our growth and be of more benefit to
people with learning disabilities in our local area.
We are proud of the fact that we organise and host our own events.
Our group compete in a wide range of sports throughout the year,
whether indoor or outdoor activities. We also
, with some of the more specialised sports training
more frequently. Their joy is the true Olympic spirit - their achievement
is to take part - their courage makes every competitor a winner.
